They climbed Mount Kinabalu, and when they got to the top, they started to strip off - even though their guide reportedly warned them not to. Days later, Hawkins was arrested and four other tourists year-old Canadian Lindsey and his sister Danielle, 22; a year-old Dutch man, Dylan Snel; and Canadian, Emil Kaminski, 33 handed themselves in. Why would they go against the advice of their guide and risk offending locals? Where was their sense of respect?

A video clip showing a naked woman doing squats while watched by a policewoman sparked calls today for an investigation into whether Chinese people were targeted unfairly by authorities in Malaysia. The footage of the woman, who appears to be ethnic Chinese, strengthened allegations that Malaysian police unfairly round up Chinese women, accusing them of prostitution, and bolstered wider complaints about inhumane or humiliating treatment of detainees. The Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak pledged a thorough investigation, saying the video clip was the first documented evidence of police abusing detainees and vowed stern action against the culprits. She said a compact disc containing the video clip was delivered anonymously to her Democratic Action Party office yesterday. She showed it to Parliament the same day. The video clip, also displayed on a Malaysian news website, shows a naked woman from the back doing squats holding her ears.

Malaysian authorities have arrested a woman for allegedly stripping naked to pose for pictures on the country's highest peak, Mount Kinabalu. The act sparked controversy with some Malaysians saying it angered the spirits of the mountain and caused an earthquake. Police in the eastern state of Sabah arrested the woman involved in the incident, state news agency Bernama reported. The nationality of the woman was not disclosed, however the Telegraph has reported her to be British national Eleanor Hawkins, 24, of Derby. Hawkin's father, Tim Hawkins, urged authorities to offer his daughter clemency.
