A forest fire in created the meadow. According to the Guide to the Susquehannock Trail System , the fire claimed acres in May of that year. The forest never fully regenerated; trees are sparse and interspersed with thickets of ferns, grass, and briars. From the meadow is a fine vista of the Hammersley Fork headwaters drainage area.
