Halo collection matchmaking slow

Unfortunately, that track record appears to be at an end, as the prognosis for Halo: The Master Chief Collection's multiplayer isn't looking good. In fact, matchmaking and its underlying functionality invites, party system seem to be completely broken out of the gate. I've spent the last hour trying to successfully enter a multiplayer match via matchmaking, using most of the title's 10 built-in playlists which span the entire Halo multiplayer library of maps and modes. I then partied up with a few press friends and repeated the process, trading off party leader duties just to rule out any weird network connection issues. No dice.
